Alexis Isaac, Resident in Counseling

Therapist

Alexis (she/her) is a Resident in Counseling in Virginia and a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC). She holds a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of San Diego and is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision at Virginia Tech.

Alexis became a counselor because she believes in the power of human connection and the capacity for change at every stage of life. Supporting clients as they discover their strengths and create meaningful lives is what drives her passion for this work.

She works with individuals, couples, families, and groups across the lifespan—from children to older adults. Her areas of focus include supporting people navigating trauma, addiction, depression, anxiety, and life transitions. She’s worked in both outpatient and inpatient settings, including a private practice working with survivors of sexual and domestic violence, a college counseling center, a residential treatment facility, and a retirement community.

Her counseling practice is grounded in trauma-informed care to create a safe and supportive space where her clients feel heard and understood. Alexis integrates evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and the Community Resiliency Model (CRM).

Above all, Alexis believes that healing and growth begin within the counseling relationship, and she strives to walk alongside her clients with empathy, respect, and compassion. She also recognizes that starting counseling can feel overwhelming at times – whether you take the next step with her or another provider, she will be rooting for you as you start this next chapter.

Outside of her work, she enjoys spending time with family, exploring the beautiful New River Valley, trying new food, and playing board games.
